Simple Dates

I had a wonderful time this past Friday evening with my wife. We've gotten good over the years at getting out for our weekly date night. It seems that the older we get the more we enjoy just being together. We don't really need anything to have a good time. In fact, some of our favorite dates are just going to the grocery store together late at night.

This past Friday we headed out to Thanksgiving Point to check out an art exhibit where Kim's uncle was showing some of his paintings. We got a bite to eat and then stopped by the house to put the baby in bed. Then we grabbed a blanket, some water, and a couple of small flashlights and headed up Grove Creek Canyon.

Grove Creek Canyon is a canyon about a mile and a half from our home. There is a fun trail that heads up the canyon and then switches back to gain elevation before switching back again to head further up the canyon. When you get to the second switchback, the trail has lead you out to the front of the mountain to a nice spot overlooking Utah Valley.

We sat together on the side of the mountain watching what was left of the sunset and then looking at the beautiful patterns of lights in the valley below us. After twilight was gone and it was fully night, we walked back down the trail and headed home to watch an older version of Jane Austen's Persuasion.

It was an evening filled with simple pleasures, beautiful views and quiet conversation.
